The Supergirl products shown in this story are cosmetics, games, and dolls. Each sold separately. ;) Superman is mentioned as being on a space mission with his robots during the events of this story. Statuettes of Legionnaires Phantom Girl, Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl, and Lightning Lad appear in this story, as well as shadowed figures of at least four other members. Above this set of figures, Linda has a plaque which reads "Legion of Super-Heroes". When the Phantom Girl figures starts to glow, Linda says it is a pre-arranged signal, presumably letting her know that that particular Legionnaire is coming for a visit. A sign in front of the meteor at the Midvale Museum of Natural History says that it fell near the town in 1952. The sign in front of the Kpnum Totem Pole at the museum reads "According to an old Indian legend, whoever kisses before this totem pole will be happy forever." After Dick and Linda kiss in front of the totem pole, it is funny to note that Dick thinks "Golly, I wish I had the nerve to ask her for another kiss!" while Linda is thinking "I was hoping he'd ask me for another kiss!" Jerro says it is his birthday in this story. Edna Danvers seems to be quite happy in her role as a housewife in this story. She refuses to let Linda help her with her house-cleaning, sayins she enjoys doing it herself, then is glad her powers wore off as she "prefer[s] relying on [her] husband and [Linda] for protection!" It is interesting to note that when Dick Malverne loses control of his car, he would have died if had not been kissed by Linda and given super-powers. However, he also would have died later, in the volcano, when he suddenly lost his powers, if not for the intervention of the Supergirl Emergency Squad. Super-Dick gives Superboy, the king of fabricated explanations, a run for his money with his complicated "theory" on how he and Linda acquired their super-powers. Supergirl notes that, "though Dick and Jerro each gained super-powers about an hour apart... they lost them only moments apart! I guess that's due to another unpredictable effect of red kryptonite!" What probably happened was that, although she kissed them (and her mother) and different times, giving them powers, they all lost their powers at pretty much the exact same time as the red kryptonite effect wore off of Supergirl. The title of the story is "Supergirl's Super Boy-Friends" yet Brainiac 5 does not appear in the story even though Supergirl has referred to him as her boyfriend on previous occasions (Action Comics No. 276, 282). Perhaps Brainy was excluded from the story because he already is a "super" boyfriend. This issue has the same cover date as Superboy No. 98, which featured the first appearance of Ultra Boy. This might be taken as serendipitous "hint" as to the destiny that makes Phantom Girl and Ultra Boy a couple. Action Comics No. 347 (G-33) (Mar.-Apr. 1967) |
